This decision to abandon a Catholic tenet in order to appease the schismatic Orthodox was announced on Hd.gorogKatolikus.hu. The article argues that, in recent decades, Pope John Paul II prayed with Orthodox patriarchs, omitting the 'Filioque'. It claims that this change is not an innovation, but a return to a text prayed by ancestors. The current version states that the "Holy Spirit [...] proceeds from the Father". However, this can easily be misunderstood. According to the Western Church, the Holy Spirit proceeds "from the Father and the Son".
