71 years old Bishop Bechara Rai of Jbeil, Lebanon, has been elected the new Patriarch of the Maronite Catholic Church. Rai was elected by the Maronite Synod of Bishops after a 4 days of inconclusive balloting. He replaces Cardinal Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir, who had retired earlier this year at the age of 90. Christians form a crucial political bloc in Lebanon, where Shi’ite and Sunni Muslim groups are in a struggle for political power. Therefore the leadership of the Maronite community is a major factor in the nation’s politics.

When most governments are struggling to remain solvent, the UK is going to double foreign aid to Pakistan? The amount pledged is approximately 1 Billion U.S pledged over the years 2009-2013.
This is what it costs to (hopefully) buy protection for the UK. Being an “ally” of the West in its war against Islamic terrorism, the Pakistani government demands the constant increase of aid, while remaining an extremely unreliable partner.
If the Mafia were to do make such demands it would be called extortion. Here it is called "foreign aid."
