As “Mass”Progressed I Was Both Disappointed and Annoyed
Bishop Coyne: Went to Mass and Things Went Downhill From There

USA

This morning I attended Mass rather than concelebrated Mass.

When Mass began, the priest, a guy about my age, came out and said, "Hello," and then proceeded with the Mass. The only problem was he had forgotten the Sign of the Cross. Well, maybe he was just a little distracted.

I think we did the penetential rite but I'm not sure. There was no "Gloria" so I was beginning to think we weren't going to be celebrating the Feast of the Transfiguration since it hadn't been mentioned yet but eventually we got there when he "prayed" a spontaneous opening prayer that did mention the Transfiguration.

Things kind of went downhill from there. I'll spare you the details. I will say I'm pretty sure it was still a valid Mass even though he changed the words of the Eucharistic institution - a lot, not just a few.

I hear all the time from priests: this was not the intention of Vatican II to change the liturgy." Well, that my be true, but you will know them by their fruits. Look around you at the travesty. There has been more apostacy and decline in mass attendance since Vatican II. Many bishops disobey the pope. Example: the pope's wish for priests to distribute communion on the tongue and while kneeling. Funny, I don't ever recall Vatican II documents stating that the tabernacle is to be moved to a side alter, and statues removed. I can truly say, given my personal experience that I was a fallen away Catholic, but I have returned to the Church thanks to attending a Tridentine Rite mass. I once asked a traditionalist priest whether the Novus Ordo was valid, and that I thought it was a scandal. He stated the SCANDAL is that it is valid and that Our Lord is offended. The Tridentine mass will save this church and the clergy from Apostacy. I truely believe that if Peter and Paul were to come down from heaven, they would prefer participate in the Tridentine Rite over the Novus Ordo. I am 52 and served as an alter boy in the Novus Ordo. What a privilidge it would have been to assist at the Tridentine Rite.
Respectfully,

Timothy
