Key cost pressures continue to grow. Personnel expenses increased steadily from €158 million (2022) to €175.4 million (2024) despite stated containment efforts. Real-estate maintenance costs jumped from €13.2 million to €24.2 million in one year, without a matching rise in property income. The Vatican also acknowledges that much of 2024’s improved result came from “punctual” financial effects unlikely to recur.
