I know of this kind from my days as a protestant. My wifes pastor used this defense to try to stop her from revaling his attempted rape of her after refusing his advances by phone and unannounced visits for many years. He felt she should aknowledge his good work in the community as proof of his calling and declared that in the end it would be his word against hers. Well, after getting his rump handed to him he finally found his true calling cleaning colons at the local enema clinic. all glory … [More]

I recognize a veiled confession of wrongdoing by Fr. Corapi here. He basically is rationalizing and intellectualizing his "crossing over the line of no return" and making no attempt to change from the ways that made his crossover. He has a "that's the way it is" attitude that is nothing less than pride and an unwillingness to give up the things of this world that once again have ensnared him.
