Benedict XVI: Draw from St. Paul today and always.

The Church can always draw from the fruitfulness of the writings of St. Paul. Benedict XVI reiterated this during the catechesis of the General Audience dedicated to the figure of the Apostle to the Gentiles. The Pope noted the extraordinary legacy St. Paul has left to the Church.

St. Augustine, the Holy Father said, owed the decisive point in his conversion to St. Paul.

St. Thomas Aquinas has left us a beautiful commentary on the Pauline letters, representing the most mature fruit of medieval exegesis. In addition to a renewal of studies we are witnessing in recent years, the Church has seen the development of numerous movements and religious congregations that reflect the work of the Apostle. Drawing from St. Paul, as much from his example as from his apostolic doctrine, is the stimulus, if not the guarantee, of the strengthening of the Christian identity of each of us and for the renewal of the whole Church.
