Implement the Motu Proprio: A Bishop Speaks

Many of our readers will be familiar with the name of Mgr. Mario Oliveri, the bishop of the diocese of Albenga-Imperia in Northern Italy. Recently Mgr. Oliveri sent out a letter to his clergy, addressing them on the matter of the openness (or lack thereof) to implementing the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum.

The original letter may be found here, but here is a quick NLM translation of the most relevant paragraphs:

"Dear Priests and Deacons,

"It is with much bitterness of spirit that I have found that many of you have not taken up or made a right attitude of mind and heart toward the possibility given to the faithful by the motu proprio "Summorum Pontificum" of Pope Benedict XVI, of the celebration of Holy Mass "in the extraordinary form" according to the Missal of Blessed John XXIII, promulgated in 1962.

@philosopher...well, can I relate to your experience. The bottom line, they don't Care to learn the EF, and probably if they were made to say it, you would see many leave the priesthood...believe me. The modernists despise tradition, be it the beautiful Latin Mass or anything else that even smells tradition. @holyrope My experience corresponds with your sentiments. I know of two parishes in my area, where the parish priests and pastors were approached by a group (15- 20 people) of the faithful requesting the EF of the Holy Mass, and giving their pledge that they would support it. One pastor said, he took some Latin in college, but was not comfortable in saying it, and it was dropped and never brought up again. Thank you Gloria TV for this excellent post! ... It most certainly speaks the truth of what Catholics all over the world are having to endure from obstinent, disobedient, and yes, even pride-filled priests, pastors and bishops, although not all, but most, when it comes to implementing the Motu Proprio and Especially when the faithful have time and time again requested for it!!
