Poll: Americans Still Believe Abortion is Morally Wrong

A new poll released by Rasmussen Reports today shows mixed results for pro-life and pro-abortion advocates but still has Americans generally opposing abortion and saying it is morally wrong.



The Rasmussen survey finds forty-seven percent (47%) now believe abortion is morally wrong most of the time, while 36% consider abortion to be morally acceptable in most cases. Seventeen percent (17%) aren’t sure.

“A majority of Republicans are pro-life and consider abortion morally wrong most of the time. Majorities of Democrats and voters not affiliated with either party are pro-choice. Yet while 55% of Democrats regard the procedure as morally acceptable most of the time, just 32% of unaffiliated voters agree,” Rasmussen said.

“Voters under 40 years of age are far more supportive than their elders of abortion rights and are less likely to believe it’s too easy to get an abortion in this country. A plurality (43%) of these younger voters say abortion is morally acceptable most of the time. Most voters over 40 think the procedure is morally wrong in most cases.”

In addition, thirty-seven percent (37%) of likely voters now believe it is too easy for a woman to get an abortion in the United States while only seventeen percent (17%) believe it’s too hard to get an abortion in America, while 30% say the level of difficulty is about right. Another 15% are not sure.
