Crescent and Cross on One Level: At Pope Leo XIV’s interreligious event on October 28, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, there was a performance titled “Tri Apsari.” It brought together three religions — Hinduism (Bali), Catholicism (Java), and Islam (Sumatra) — in a single choreographic fusion. During the dance, three large panels were displayed, each bearing a cross, a crescent, and an Om symbol. Their identical size and placement on the same level conveyed a clear visual message: the three contradicting religions — Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism — are equal.
“Tri Apsari” (Indonesia): three traditional dances presented together to symbolize Hinduism (Bali), Catholicism (Java), and Islam (Sumatra)—a deliberate choreographic fusion to stage coexistence as one piece.
One of the most common and dangerous misconceptions among many Catholics today, especially in cultures like ours that have been shaped by superstition, is the belief that the souls of our departed loved ones become “ghosts” who can roam the earth and communicate with the living. You often hear people say that after death, the soul wanders for forty days before it goes to heaven. This idea is false. It does not come from the teaching of the Church, nor does it reflect the truth of what happens to the soul after death. This “forty days” belief actually comes from a misinterpretation of Scripture. After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to His disciples for forty days before ascending into heaven (Acts 1:3). But here is the key point: what applies to Christ does not automatically apply to us. Jesus is God. His Resurrection and His Ascension are divine events that revealed His victory over sin and death. We, on the other hand, are creatures who face judgment immediately after death. …More
To date Pope Leo has not replaced a single dicastery head. His only major appointment has been that of Archbishop Filippo Iannone to fill the seat that the Pope himself had held, as prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops. (And Archbishop Iannone, significantly, was already serving a ranking member of the Curia, as prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts.) Nor has the new Pope been energetic in bringing in his own men at lower tiers of Vatican officialdom. Vatican-watcher Andrea Gaggliarducci observes: “Leo XIV continues—so far—to work with the structure that preceded him, with the same ghostwriters as Pope Francis.”
