Eight years after the Dayton agreement heralded the end of a brutal civil war, in Bosnia-Herzegovina the Catholic Church today faces the monumental task of not only rebuilding but keeping the Croatian faithful from fleeing to western Europe. According to official estimates, in 1991 there were some 850,000 Croats living in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Today their number has been almost halved to 460,000.
This 28 minute documentary addresses the growing concern of the Catholic flight from this region and the efforts of the local Catholic Church to stem the exodus of young families by providing the necessary social and educational services - in this case the "Schools for Europe" project.
With interviews with Church leaders, parents and students, the CRTN - MC Media (Bosnia) co-production addresses the role and importance of the "Schools for Europe" project not only for young Catholic families but also as a tool of reconciliation between Catholics and Muslims. The project belief is that Bosnia and Herzegovina can only leave the vicious circle of hate through generations raised to be open to dialogue, tolerance, ecumenism and forgiveness.
