The allegedly Catholic St. Vinzenz Hospital in Cologne distributes de facto the morning after pill. The evidence was submitted by a detective who presented herself to the hospital as a married woman who experienced the break of a condom while committing adultery. In order to prescribe the abortive drug, the gynaecologist of the hospital collaborated closely with the emergency service, which is on the grounds of the hospital without formally belonging to it. No check was performed whether the woman had had an ovulation or not. The possible abortive effect of the morning after pill was not taken in consideration. The woman was not even informed about it.

On Monday Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported that the Vatican had spent around €20 million in 2008 on a block of apartments for members of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples. The congregation coordinates the Church's missionary activities. The block is placed in a historic palazzo on a private road and is also home to the gay sauna and fitness venue, Europa Multiclub. The club's website describes the location at Via Carducci 2 as "a safe and quiet neighborhood, home to institutions and ministries, a few steps from Termini station."

In a change to past papal elections, when going to the loggia the new Pope will have the possibility to stop in the Pauline Chapel for a moment of adoration in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Then he will go towards the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. Regarding some usual ceremonies the total amount of time that will lapse between the white smoke and the Pope’s appearance on St. Peter’s balcony will be about 50 minutes.
