When I lived in Cornwall;Safron buns were all the rage and I could not stand them.So am not sure if the Füssen Luziabrot was Saffron.It didnot taste like it-I will ask the Pfarrbüro when I go and pick up the Katholische Sonntag Zeitung for my daughter to deliver.

Monika,Thank you for that information about Sweden.I will use it in my website report.The person who told me did not mention the eyes.But they were gourged out and It does show two raisens which could well represent the eyes.They did taste good thats for sure!

Also in Schweden - wo dieses Gebäck herkommt - heißen diese Kringel "Lussekatter" (Lucia Katzen) und sollen angeblich das Tablett mit den zwei Augen der Lucia darauf symbolisieren.

Es ist Safran-Gebäck und schmeckt auch dementsprechend lecker.
