Pope Leo XIV celebrated a Eucharist in St. Peter’s Basilica in memory of his predecessor and 142 other church prelates who died in the past year. He remembered Francis “with great affection” and called him “a chosen soul”. “Dearly beloved Pope Francis and our brother cardinals and bishops, for whom we offer the Eucharistic Sacrifice today, have lived, witnessed, and taught a new, Paschal hope." Furthermore, Leo XIV said: "Through their ministry they—to use the language of the Book of Daniel—have ‘led many to righteousness’, guiding them on the path of the Gospel with the wisdom that comes from Christ."
