"Behind the label of backwardness is deep ecological wisdom, social philosophy, and a way of life shaped over thousands of years. Even before the Gospel arrived, God spoke through their culture, relationships, and understanding of the world." — Father Frans Lieshout, OFM.
Saints of the Day The Seven Sons of St. Felicitas, Martyrs July 10 Homily on Blessed Felicitas: Consider, dear brothers, this man's heart in a woman's body. Before death she stood without fear. She feared to lose the light of the truth in her sons if she kept them alive. St Felicitas encouraged each son to die well Let none of you imagine, dear brothers, that seeing her sons die, the heart of this mother did not vibrate with natural tenderness. Her sons, whom she knew to be her own flesh, she could not but see them die with pain, but she had within her a strong enough love to overcome the pain of flesh. Felicitas loved her sons as nature intended, but for the sake of the heavenly fatherland, she wished that those whom she loved should die, and even in her presence. It was she who felt their wounds, but it was she who multiplied herself, so to speak, in the person of the sons who preceded her to the Kingdom. With reason I call this woman more than a martyr, for in her ardor she died in …
Colossians 1 Exegesis: The Cosmic Christ Explained (Hymn 1:15-20) | Catholic Bible Commentary Letter to the Colossians 1,12-20. Brothers and sisters: Let us give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light. He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he himself might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile all things for him, making peace by the …More
The Eastern Orthodox has three major players: Patriarch Bartholomew of Greece, Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow Although Bartholomew claimed the title,” First among equals” it is quite apparent that Theophillos and Kirill are very independent. About half of the Greek Orthodox are Pro-Homosexual, as the Patriarch himself did not stop the Archbishop of America from performing a Gay baptism in the Greek mainland. Patriarch Theophillos’ views on Homosexuality are: Homosexuality as contrary to God's will and design for creation . Marriage and Sexuality: The Church teaches that marriage, a sacred institution ordained by God, is exclusively the conjugal union of a man and a woman. This union is considered to be in the image of God's faithful love and is the only context for sexual expression. Condemnation of Acts, Not Persons: The official stance generally distinguishes between "orientation" and "acts". While homosexual acts are considered sinful, the …More
Pope Paul VI's leadership and through the Second Vatican Council, affirmed that Orthodox sacraments are valid because they possess valid apostolic succession .
