Bronze doors, Saint Michael's, Hildesheim, commissioned by Bishop Bernward, 1015 The Bernward Doors (German: Bernwardstür) are the two leaves of a pair of Ottonian or Romanesque bronze doors, made c. 1015 for Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany. They were commissioned by Bishop Bernward of Hildesheim (938–1022). The doors show relief images from the Bible, scenes from the Book of Genesis on the left door and from the life of Jesus on the right door. They are considered a masterpiece of Ottonian art, and feature the oldest known monumental image cycle in German sculpture, and also the oldest cycle of images cast in metal in Germany.

Today, Pope Leo XIV delivered a lengthy speech to the Italian bishops gathered in Assisi that was full of empty, pious words. He admitted that his guidelines for the Church "correspond to the perspectives that emerged during the synodal journey of the Church in Italy". However, the Italian Synod accepted homosexuality and female deacons in October. Pope Leo XIV commented: "It is now up to you, bishops, to outline the pastoral guidelines for the coming years." He hopes that a "synodal spirit" will develop. At the same time, he announced the merger of Italian dioceses. For Leo XIV, synodality requires communion among the bishops and the Pope, as well as "attentive listening and serious discernment of the requests that come from the people of God" [=media]. He wants to promote the greater participation of the people in the consultation process for the appointment of new bishops. Furthermore: "A synodal Church [...] needs to renew itself continually. We must avoid allowing inertia, even …More
Quote: "We must avoid allowing inertia, even when motivated by good intentions, to slow down the necessary changes." - translation: "Forward, ever forward. No turning back the clock to rigid traditionalism." Spoken like a true revolutionary!

The Book of Special Grace - audiobook Mechthild (of Hackeborn) Mechthild's Book consists of visions and revelations about liturgical feasts, saints, and the Blessed Virgin, along with many other revelations experienced by the mystical nun as recounted to her sisters--especially her close friend, St. Gertrude the Great. These visions reveal the deeply communal, optimistic spirituality of the Helfta nuns, which revolved around their sacramental and liturgical life and asserted strong, durable bonds between the living and the dead. Because of the work's considerable length, this translation is selective, focusing especially on passages devoted to the Sacred Heart (the chief contribution of Helfta to the broader tradition of Catholic spirituality), the friendship of Mechthild and Gertrude, and the nature of life in community. Included are an introduction and notes.+
St. Mechtilde: Book of Special Grace. SacredHeartPublications on Sep 13, 2016 Book Of Grace. The Love of the Sacred Heart. Before the revelations of Divine Mercy to St. Faustina, or of the Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque there were the revelations of the Sacred Heart to St. Mechtilde (1241-1298) a Benedictine nun and friend of St. Gertrude the Great. Lovers of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus will find many similarities between these and St. Margaret Mary’s revelations though they lived several centuries apart, though there is no evidence that she was familiar with St. Mechtilde’s writings. This is Volume 1. Link leads to pdf of all three volumes. saintsbooks.net/books/The Love of the…
Cardinal Zuppi Acknowledges Fading of Church: "Christianity in Italy is coming to an end — but not what is Christian," Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, said on November 17 at the opening of the bishops’ plenary assembly. What is fading, he emphasized, is an order. Italian society is no longer "naturally Christian," this should not frighten priests, bishops, or local communities: "The end of Christianity does not mean the disappearance of faith," he said.

On 17 November, Pope Leo XIV delivered a UN propaganda video message addressed to a gathering at the Amazonian Museum in Belém, Brazil. It was an event held alongside the COP30 climate summit that is part of the broader Agenda 2030 of the United Nations. Leo XIV described creation as "crying out in floods, droughts, storms and relentless heat". He strongly endorsed international climate efforts, stating that the Paris Agreement "remains our strongest tool for protecting people and the planet". He insisted that the agreement itself is not the problem, but rather that "what is failing is the political will of some". However, the 2015 Agreement has an underlying agenda of promoting abortion, contraception and sterilisation as a means of population control and reducing human consumption of the Earth's resources. Following Leo XIV’s video message, the cardinals and bishops in attendance held up a rainbow-coloured fishing net. This net is a replica of one that was given to Pope Francis during …More
Again with the ignorant messages....when is the clergy going to wake up to the deceptions of these fake climate alarmists...do they believe in God or not..do they suppose. that we can save the earth....and that God has abandoned his creation ...Just look at how a tree can become full of leaves in spring, overnight...Can we do that? But the arrogance of the demons is always trying to lie knowing we will believe the lies...like Adam and Eve, your classic doubters
Catholic priest - son of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Monsignor Hugh Benson’s birthday (18 November 1871) inspires a reflection on his life, shaped this year by the publication of the long-awaited Benson Diary (Volumes I–II, 2025), the vast journals of his brother Arthur Christopher (AC) Benson. Edited by Eamon Duffy and Ronald Hyam, these volumes present around one-twelfth of AC’s enormous 180-volume diary (nearly five million words), widely praised as a major contribution to English diaristic literature. AC Benson — Eton housemaster, Master of Magdalen College, prolific writer, and author of the lyrics to “Land of Hope and Glory” — recorded an extraordinary picture of late-Victorian and Edwardian intellectual life. The new edition has been lauded by reviewers, though with one dissent from Sir Vernon Bogdanor, who considers the diaries excessive in their scholarly treatment and little more than refined gossip. The Benson family itself was remarkable. Hugh was the youngest child …More
The Winter Travel Issue For Some Nuns, Baking Is an Act of Devotion In convents across Spain, the tradition of selling sweets is alive and well. nytimes.com/…25/11/10/t-magazine/nuns-convent- … Leer en español ON A RECENT morning in Seville, Spain, a city crowded with churches and ceramic tiles depicting the Passion of Christ and the suffering of saints, some visitors slipped into a 14th-century convent and gathered in the shady corner of a courtyard. One rang a bell by a wooden turnstile built into the wall and called out, “Hail Mary, most pure!” “Conceived without sin,” responded a disembodied voice from the other side. What seemed like the start of a prayer was instead the beginning of a pastry order. Patrons at the Convent of Santa Inés asked the cloistered nun for Santa Inés cookies, a lighter, sugar-sprinkled version of shortbread; magdalenas (golden muffins); and other treats from the convent’s ovens. They put down their euros. The turnstile spun, the money vanished and clear …More
