Arthritis in the Legs: The Italian weekly “Chi” publishes today pictures of Benedict XVI while leaving the Vatican monastery where he is living. He looks tired and needs the support of his private secretary, archbishop Georg Gänswein in order to go down the three steps at the entrance. Benedict limits his daily walk to sitting in front of the monastery. According to Gänswein he suffers from arthritis in the legs.

Poor but not Crazy: Cardinal John Onaiyekan of Abuja, Nigeria, has defended in front of the Deutsche Welle his country’s ban on homosexual marriages. Quote: “If a state allows two men to marry each other, no one should expect that the Church accepts that. We should have the right to decide what we think is right and wrong. The Western world has to give up its arrogance. It cannot decide in which direction Nigeria has to develop. We may be poor, but not crazy. The Western world, however, is rich, but can sometimes be pretty crazy.”

Religious Leaders: Yesterday, President Vladimir Putin addressed the Russian parliament and other leaders before ratifying a treaty making Crimea again a part of Russia. The speech was also attend by a representative of the Russian Orthodox Moscow Patriarchate, the head of Russian Lutherans, the Chief Mufti of Russia and the Italian born Chief Rabbi of Russia.

Non-Practicing: Former Société Générale trader Jérôme Kerviel racked up 5 billion euros' worth of unauthorized trading losses and was sentenced to three years in prison back in 2010. Now is hoping to clear his name by walking about 900 miles from Rome to Paris. Kerviel says his walk is a personal journey aimed at publicizing Pope Francis’s November attack on the “tyranny” of financial markets. Kerviel met Pope Francis after a regular Wednesday audience. He described himself as believer, but as a non-practicing Catholic.

Fraternal Correction: Benedict XVI read the big September interview of Pope Francis according to his private secretary archbishop Georg Gänswein speaking to German TV. Francis himself had asked the Pope emeritus for a critical evaluation of the text. After that Benedict XVI dictated to a secretary four pages with annotations. Gänswein revealed no details about the content of the text.

Même après vingt-cinq siècles, Hippocrate aurait encore raison de dire:
"Ta nourriture sera ton remède."
