Israeli Army Damages Gaza Parish: A bombing carried out by the Israeli army Tuesday morning near the Catholic parish in Gaza has partially destroyed the adjacent parish school, the pastor’s office and parish rooms. Monday afternoon, the Israelis ordered the civil population to leave their homes announcing that they were about to be bombed. But an evacuation was not possible for those refugees who currently live in the Catholic church. In addition the three nuns of Mother Teresa along with 29 disabled children and 9 elderly women in their care at the parish of the Holy Family could not be moved.

Mother Carbonized: Also Christians are dying because of the Israeli attack against the civil population in Gaza. One of the victims was the 91-year-old Greek-orthodox woman, Solanj Tarazy Um Elias. She was known as the “woman who spoke German”. The second victim was Jalila Farah Aiad Um Jerjis. She died carbonized after a devastating Israeli missile hit her home where she was with her husband and her eldest son Jerjis who is now in a deep coma. Jerjis lost his two legs and one arm and suffered severe burns on his face and on the chest. The younger son, Anton, was attending Mass when the crime was carried out.

Ciudad del Este: Responding to journalists’ questions, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi, made a statement about the situation in the Diocese of Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, and the recent Apostolic Visitation of Cardinal Santos Abril y Castelló. Quote: “I can confirm that in the course of the visitation, the Cardinal cautioned Bishop Livieres against proceeding with further priestly ordinations. No other provisions were announced.” News reports had wrongly suggested that the Vicar General of the Diocese, Fr Carlos Urrutigoity, a former priest of the Society of Saint Pius X, had been fired.

Religious Freedom: President Barack Obama has nominated the ultraliberal Rabbi David Saperstein, director and counsel of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, to be ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom. The State Department post without major importance and has been vacant since the Rev. Suzan Johnson Cook resigned in October 2013. The nomination will have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Saperstein is an adjunct professor at Jesuit Georgetown University Law Center.

Israel is a tiny piece of land surrounded on all sides by enemies sworn to bring about her eradication. Despite living in circumstances which could reasonably be seen to dictate fighting to defend their homes with unrestrained ferocity unbound by the scruples normally associated with Western norms, the IDF are the most humane fighting fighting force in human history, so concerned about avoiding civilian collateral casualties that they call ahead and, in essence, warn their enemies of impending attacks. To characterize the situation otherwise is intellectually dishonest. God bless all here.
