The Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer – commonly known as the “Transalpine Redemptorists” – have issued a declaration stating that “we cannot accept the current pretenders to the papacy from the time of the Second Vatican Council.” The Transalpine Redemptorists were founded in 1987 with the blessing of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. Maybe Rome has to go back to 1965, or 33. Through inspiration, wisdom or simple practicality, Abp Lefebvre canonically formed the SSPX to hold the charism of the Vetus Ordo and Vetus faith. They do not declare the sede vacant. They include the Pope and Local Ordinary in the Cannon, and obey every declaration of Rome to the extent it does not violate that previously approved charism. When Rome returns to the Apostolic Faith, which it will with God's Grace, the SSPX does not have to change a thing.
