Between 1995 and 2009, German police received 138,000 complaints of child sexual abuse. Of these, 147 were committed by priests or religious. That is, less than 0.1% of the total.
Child sexual abuse is not a problem unique to the Catholic Church. Paradoxically, the majority of abuse takes place in the family, where between 60 and 70 percent of such assaults are committed.
