Book of Sirach 48,1-4.9-11. In those days, like a fire there appeared the prophet Elijah whose words were as a flaming furnace. Their staff of bread he shattered, in his zeal he reduced them to straits; By God's word he shut up the heavens and three times brought down fire. How awesome are you, Elijah! Whose glory is equal to yours? You were taken aloft in a whirlwind, in a chariot with fiery horses. You are destined, it is written, in time to come to put an end to wrath before the day of the LORD, To turn back the hearts of fathers toward their sons, and to reestablish the tribes of Jacob. Blessed is he who shall have seen you and who falls asleep in your friendship. Psalms 80(79),2ac.3b.15-16.18-19. O shepherd of Israel, hearken. from your throne upon the cherubim, shine forth. Rouse your power. Once again, O LORD of hosts, look down from heaven, and see: take care of this vine, and protect what your right hand has planted the son of man whom you yourself made strong. May your help be …More
"What kind of unity do we actually want?", asked Cardinal Kurt Koch about ecumenism talking to Die Tagespost on 11 December. He explained that the Church and orthodox groups seek unity in terms of faith and sacraments. However, some Protestant groups envisage "unity" whereby each group remains as it is while recognising one another mutually. With the Orthodox, a consensus has yet to be reached, especially regarding the authority of the Pope. Cardinal Koch noted that a Pope seen merely as "primus inter pares" with no real authority "would only work in fair weather".
@Orthocat Also remind him that the Orthodox Church has strict fasting requirements , and maybe he should start practicing going meatless for the 40 day periods during Lent and Advent, along with every Wednesday and Friday throughout the year.
University must pay $10m for forcing people to have Covid vaccine A Colorado university's medical school has been ordered to pay a $10.3 million settlement to staff and students who said they were forced to take the COVID-19 vaccine despite requesting religious exemptions. The University of Colorado (CU) Anschutz, located in Aurora, was sued in 2021 by 18 anonymous plaintiffs, including physicians, medical students, nurses, researchers and administrative staff, who argued the school's mandate violated their First Amendment rights. The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals ultimately ruled that Chancellor Donald Elliman and other university officials acted with 'religious animus' when they rejected all requests for religious exemptions. Under the settlement, the university must now allow students to request religious accommodations on equal terms as employees, and grant religious exemption requests the same consideration as medical exemptions, a reversal of its policy during the pandemic. The …

Now we have this going on. I think we should follow everything closely that is going on with Europe, Ukraine and Russia. Be prepared ahead of time. EU breaks fundamental vote rule to freeze …
In Europe, the controversy surrounding what is popularly known as the “Chat Control” project — proposed EU regulation officially aimed at combating child sexual abuse material — has, for months, been crystallizing massive opposition on both technical and civic fronts. The core principles of the legislation are clear: “Detection software would be embedded in the messaging app or the operating system to scan chat content and automatically forward any material flagged as prohibited to law enforcement agencies.” The automatic scan of private content (texts, images, videos) sent through messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram, or prompts sent to AI platforms (e.g. ChatGPT) would take place “client-side,” before its encryption, meaning directly on your phone, tablet or computer. Welcome to 1984. In the first proposal for a Chat Control project in 2022, such scanning was mandatory. In the current proposal, it is optional — but strongly recommended. Whenever there is a desire …
The following column, republish from America Magazine, was authored by Daniel E. Garcia, Brendan J. Cahill and Robert J. Brennan In the Gospel of Luke, a scholar of the law poses a question to Jesus that continues to echo in our hearts today: “And who is my neighbor?” (10:29). It is a question that reveals both the yearning and the resistance found within the human spirit—a desire to do what is right and yet a temptation to draw artificial boundaries around our compassion. This Gospel truth compels us to speak with clarity and conviction in the face of injustice toward our neighbors. Today, too many of our brothers and sisters live under the shadow of fear. In particular, right now in our country, those who are Black, Brown, Asian and Native American live in fear of being profiled, detained or deported simply because of the color of their skin. This fear is not abstract. It is part of daily life for many in our parishes, our schools and our communities. Our Lord responds to the question …
The Three Stooges are really stupid. The socialism of their words convicts them of being watered-down communists. Do not listen to advice coming from fools.
I've gotten into the habit of making "three" signs of the Cross using Epiphany Holy Water at night. I should start doing it to start my day off right as well.
