I guess I didn't make myself entirely clear. Alinsky would say, don't protest a slum residence in the slum go into the suburban neigborhood where the slum owner lives. The neignbors would say, we don't care what you do for a living but get these blacks and hispanics out of our neighborhood. In this case they would say get these religious fanatics out of our neighborhood. Perhaps some of these thugs have wives, mothers, and children who do not know what they are doing and will be embarrassed by … [More]

If I were to advise the pro Life people, I would tell them to borrow a page from the leftist Saul Alinsky. Find out where these assailants live. Take a still picture of the man sexually asaulting the Pro Lifer and make a large poster of the event. Demonstrate in the man's neighbor hood with a sign saying "Your Neigbor is a pervert" or "A sexual assailant" "Your neighbor is a bully." "Your Neighbor is a thief" etc. etc. The key is to go to the person's own neighborhood. I bet they stop.

Thank you for this insightful homily delivered in a gentle and sincere manner. May all mothers take hope from Monica and pray for their children. To be a witness to Christ does not require us to shout and make scenes. A gentle and persistant presentation of the truth is that small whispering voice of God in our midst. I pray that you will continue on the path of priesthood you are on and be under the protection of our Blessed Mother.
catholiccat 30/08/2010 10:57:08
I am always impressed by Fr. Pacwa's knowledge and ability to bring history alive even when he has a soar throat like in this video. St. Peter Claver like all saints was truly remarkable.
catholiccat 30/08/2010 10:53:06
Good homily. Lighting was poor. But I pray for this priest to continue to spread the good news of God's mercy and our need for repentance and humility.
catholiccat 30/08/2010 10:49:31
The challenge to follow the hard path of virtue is important and the reminder of how easy it is to commit serious sin is covered in this homily. I think all need to hear this message and apply it to our lives.

St. Polycarp is one of my favorite saints. Interesting interview about Turkey and Christianity.

If we ever do get accurate statistics on clergy from other religions, I suspect that they will mirror exactly what we find among Catholic clergy. Less than one percent molesting Children under the age of 10 and another 3 percent going after adolescent boys and girls with 80 percent of the victims being boys.

This was a deeply moving moment. John Paul II as a youth often visited the local synagogue in his town for cultural events. He lived in a home with his father that was owned by a Jewish Family who lived in the same dwelling. One of his closest friends was Jewish. He would refer to the Jews as "Our Older brothers in faith."

catholiccat 07/08/2010 11:32:01
These testimonies by women are very powerful and moving. I pray for "Operation Rachel" May women who have had an abortion know that God loves them, go to confession, and do what they can to affirm and protect life.
catholiccat 07/08/2010 11:27:43
That was really different. It is refreshing to see that the accordion can be used to play something besides Lady in Spain. Piazzolla was noted for tango music and played the bandoneon. I never heard this piece. It sounds like "Oblivion" to me.
The musicians are first rate!

The Pope's respect for other religions and especially Judaism is obvious. John Paul II who grew up in a home owned by and occupied by a Jewish family was even closer. The future of the Church seems bright when we look at the faith in Africa and the Orient.

What does communion in the hand have to do with this homily? I believe that this homily is important because it gives a look at the faithful son. I know people who have done thier duty throughout lives and wonder if the preachers will ever acknowledge them. Well here is a homily that does.

Good posting. In this area we have to be very precise. 81% of the victims were boys. However 19% were girls.
16% of the victims were between the ages of 8-10 and nearly 6% were under the age of 7. These must be classified as pedophile.
14.27% of the victims were between the ages of 15-17. These should definitely be classified as ephebophilia, attraction to mid to late teens.

Jesus loved the Pharisees but they were on the wrong path because they reduced their rich and revealed religion to following external rules and laws. This made them very judgmental against others who did not follow the 613 laws. That made them feel superior which in turn led to their internal corruption. People do the same today with Christianity and religion. Reduce the faith to following external rules and regulations and you reduce the faith. Now neither Jesus nor St. Paul lessened the … [More]

A sweeping, wonderful overview of the history of God's Grace from Abraham, through Moses, to Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter. Alleluia! He connected the dots to bring out God's profound plan of salvation and how we can apply that plan to our own lives with the help of the resurrected Lord. He gives us hope for our salvation and all those we love who have died. Quite a homily!

Concern for the poor permeates the scriptures. The Prophets of Israel all insisted that true worship always entailed care of the weak, the widow, and the poor. These readings culminating with the Gospel stresses the obligation to be generous and loving. Too many people ignore God and the poor. Too many are superficially concerned about God but ignore the poor or even despise them and reveal the true state of their souls.
