New Zealander auctions Virgin Mary beach pebble

Wellington - A New Zealand woman has put a beach pebble, which she claims bears an image of the Virgin Mary, up for sale on an internet auction site, it was reported on Wednesday. Lisa-Marie Corlet, of Christchurch, told The Press newspaper she was inspired to sell the 1-centimetre wide pebble by an American woman who paid 28,000 US dollars for a 10-year-old toasted cheese sandwich with an image of the Virgin Mary on the top.

"If someone is willing to pay 28,000 dollars for a piece of toast, I'm sure someone out there would pay at least that for rock," she said.

Lyndsay Freer, spokeswoman for New Zealand Catholics, said the church was cautious about claims of holy images of the Virgin Mary, as many turned out to be fakes.

Corlet told Radio New Zealand on Wednesday the best offer she had received was 2,000 New Zealand dollars (about 1,500 US dollars).

I don’t get it with all this image/apparition nonsense. How in the world would anyone know what Mary looked like? It could just as easily the slut Madonna.

Wow, Alex... do you get bored scouring a billion Catholics across the world to find anyone acting goofy. Just for a change of pace, how about some more of those silly e-bay auctions from Protties finding Jesus in a tomato sauce stain?

It's not that difficult a task with all the idolatrous nuttiness promulgated by the RC denomination. It’s no wonder that “the faithful” are given to seeing the virgin in everything from the foam on a beer to a lump of toothpaste. Actually, it’s surprising you don’t see more of it.

It’s a good time to be reminded of how a gracious God used folks like Calvin and Luther to set us free from these abominations.

Oh, yeah... millions dead in religious wars; sexual licentiousness preached from the altars; the collective memory of the British Isles wiped clean; Muslims in Vienna... but it was all worth it because now we got Protestants finding George Washington in a pumpkin instead of the Blessed Virgin on toast.

... and I suppose you didn’t notice that no-one claimed anything was miraculous or anything.

It's always a good time, right? Who needs a sense of the right occasion when you can holla' your message about the stupidity of someone else's faith into their ear uninvited, eh? Too bad you don't share His graciousness.

As John Cleese used to say at the beginning of Monty Python.........."and now for something completely different........"......a message from a Calvinist!

Please post authoritative documents from the Roman magisterium telling people to look for, or find, images of Mary in rocks, tortillas, bridge abutments, windows ...

You'll find that they'll fit comfortably in here: []

Do they do anything to condemn this nonsense? It seems to be a peculiar trait of the RC's. You don't see this kind of stuff going on among the EO.

Ha! Ha! Very true. (Does anybody else think it looks like a threaded needle? Look closely, now.) And although this stuff is not promoted by the Catholic Church, you can always rely on Pope Alex to do the job. +{{{8^\

From the article: "If someone is willing to pay 28,000 dollars for a piece of toast, I'm sure someone out there would pay at least that for rock," she said.

The final bid for the pebble was $27,000 - a thousand less than the infamous grilled-cheese sandwich, and three grand under the auction's reserve price of $30,000.

The figure on the rock is wearing a collared shirt, and has a round, bald head. I believe it’s actually Homer Simpson, having grown a very large walrus mustache.
