Papal journey to Portugal.

The celebrations to be held in the Portuguese dioceses that Benedict XVI will visit from May 11th to 14th will each have a specific theme: “Holiness and evangelization” in Lisbon, “Sharing with joy” in Fatima, and “Church and Mission” in Porto.

In 1982, a year after the assassination attempt, John Paul II visited Fatima. He returned yet again in 1991 and 2000 -- the images of which you are now seeing.

During the homily, the Pope said that in the light of maternal love, we can understand the entire message of Our Lady of Fatima: sin itself, the resolution to remain in sin, and ultimately the denial of God are obstacles in man’s path to God. The true sin of today, the Pope said, is the elimination of God from the world, the separation of man’s earthly activities from God and mankind’s rejection of God.
