Preparations for the Special Assembly for the Middle East.
Preparations are under way for the upcoming Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, "The Catholic Church in the Middle East: Communion and Witness", which will take place from October 10th to 24th, 2010.
The Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, Archbishop Nikola Eterovic, highlighted the dimension of peace and justice that this ecclesial event entails:
"The Catholic Church in the Middle East is immediately associated with the Holy Land, beloved to all Christians. It would be a great work of charity if we began to pray, intensifying our prayers for the Christians that are in the Middle East and for all men of good will who belong to other religions, so that the celebration of the Synod may be a time of grace for everyone, bringing about more peace, justice and respect for all."
This special assembly is currently preparing the work-document "Instrumentum Laboris", which Benedict XVI will present to the leaders of the Eastern Catholic Churches during his apostolic visit to Cyprus from June 4th through 6th.
