France

Yet another priest, the Benedictine monk Fr Basile, was beaten in France. He is prior of Saint-Benoît de Chauveroche in Lepuix-Gy in eastern France, a foundation of the famous Benedictine abbey of La Pierre qui vire. The abbey houses six Benedictines aged 76 to 92 years. At one o’clock at night, four masked men knocked at the door until Fr Basile opened. They brutalized him for about 45 minutes and threatened to kill him in order to obtain money from him before they escaped. The criminals had a strong Northern African accent. Last week a priest of the Communauté de Saint Jean was attacked in front of his church by North Africans.

Rome

The North American Martyrs – the North American Seminarians in Rome - succeeded in clinching the Clericus Cup for the second year in a row beating the seminarians from Mater Ecclesiae by a score of 1-0. In keeping with tradition, the boisterous American fans showed up dressed as super heroes, including Batman, Captain America and Uncle Sam. They sang patriotic songs, chanted as a drum thumped out the beat and blew air horns. The Clericus Cup is organized by the Centro Sportivo Italiano, and this year it brought together 13 teams from local Roman seminaries to compete for the prize.

Russia

Russia wants to forbid the adoption of Russian children in countries allowing homosexual marriage. The French blog Le Salon Beige quotes the head of the Commission of International Affaires in the Russian Douma, Alexei Pouchkov – quote: “One has to forbid adoption into countries where homosexual marriage is allowed and to realize true progress in terms of adoption inside our own country.” France has recently introduced homosexual marriage. Of 1569 children adopted last year in France, the biggest group, 235, came from Russia.
