Watered Down: During Sunday Angelus Pope Francis reflected on the reality of today’s Christians running the risk of becoming worldly. Quote: “It is sad to find watered down Christians, who are like watered wine,” And: “You can’t tell whether they are Christian or worldly. It is sad to find Christians that are no longer the salt of the Earth.”

Frustrated: During Sunday Angelus a group of some 20 steal-workers from Terni, Italy, was present together with the bishop of Terni Giuseppe Piemontese, the local mayor and the president of the province of Terni. But according to media reports they left frustrated because the Pope did not acknowledge their presence although recently he was informed that the steal-company Thyssen Krupp has announced that they will lay off 500 workers. The Vatican had assured the group that it would be mentioned by Francis.

Destruction: According to “Christian Aid” the recent Israeli military campaign against Gaza has cost the agricultural and fisheries sectors more than 100 million Dollars, resulting in almost 9,000 families losing their means of income. Almost 4,000 acres of land used for fruit and vegetable production have been damaged or destroyed. In addition farmers have lost more than 300,000 livestock including cows, sheep and chickens, as well as the farms and barns in which they lived, and over 1,000 beehives. The fisheries industry has been completely wiped out. Due to the blockade imposed on Gaza by Israel, people can’t leave to earn a living elsewhere.

Inflation: Bishop Stefan Oster of Passau, Germany, has published frightening numbers. In the Sixties about half of the German Catholics were practicing their faith while the Church had 100.000 lay employees. Now, less than 11 percent of the German Catholics practice their faith while the Church has 700.000 lay employees.
