Lolo, sower of joy.

"His humility and love. He was very humble, very humble in everything."
“He turned pain into joy -- that was the great miracle of Lolo.”

“He is a prophet for any journalist -- above all for Catholic journalists.”
“Lolo was both committed to and enthusiastic about the period in which he lived.”
"Whoever was next to Lolo was happy."

“I am dying to be able to spread the Gospel.”

Manuel Lozano Garrido, was a young lay Catholic member of Catholic Action, disabled and blind, journalist, writer and apostle of joy, the man 'crucified on a wheelchair', or as Brother Roger of Taize defined him: "Lolo: Sacrament of pain".

Lolo always had a vocation as a journalist.

“He was a journalist who, though being in a wheelchair, was able to follow the events that took place throughout half a century. He was a journalist who understood reality, who understood the most profound realities, beyond the who, the where and the when -- he understood the why.”

“I think that Lolo is a Christian journalist in both senses of the word: because he spoke about God and prayer, because he talked about the Church and Our Lady. But also because he spoke about many other subjects -- schools, wages, what happened to miners, asphalting the streets, etc -- with Christian criteria.”

During his years of disability, he wrote over 200 newspaper articles and 9 books. When he lost movement in his right hand, he learned to write with his left. When the left also became paralyzed, he dictated into a tape recorder. His home became a center of ministry to youth and adults who came for advice, guidance and consolation ... all left comforted by his cheerful testimony.
His suffering, lived with the joy of offering it to God, was perhaps Lolo's most endearing characteristic.
Lolo died as he lived: in the hands of God and with a deep peace and serenity.

Now, the Church stands at the altar of one of Her children and sets him as a model for many who must personally live an experience of suffering, and for all professional journalists, that the name of God, as Lolo would say, would always be the strength and soul of their work.
The EUK Mamie Foundation, on the occasion of the beatification of Lolo, has produced the documentary "Lolo, Sower of Joy", which collects the most significant elements of his exemplary life.
