New Perspectives?

Austria

Last Wednesday, the Cardinal of Vienna Christoph Schönborn talked to the Wiener Zeitung about the homosexual lifestyle. According to the newspaper he said: „As to homosexuality one should consider more the quality of such a relationship and also speak in positive terms about this quality. A stable [homosexual] relationship is certainly better than simply living in promiscuity” – the Cardinal added. Further Schönborn asked for a „new perspective“ concerning divorced and remarried couples: „Many don’t even marry these days“, he said.

Dr. Hadley Arkes has Become A Catholic

USA

Noted pro-life thinker Dr. Hadley Arkes, the Edward N. Ney Professor in American Institutions at Amherst College, has announced that he was received into the Church on April 24. “The Church has become the main enclave to preserve the sobriety of moral reasoning, natural law reasoning, when the currents of relativism have inundated and corroded the academy and other institutions,” Arkes writes in a brief account of his conversion. “[T]he Church cannot be understood apart from the one who planted the Mustard Seed from which it grew and took its shape and character. Nor can it be detached from the Spirit that managed to preserve the discipline of its moral teachings even through times of trouble and disarray.” Arkes converted from Judaism.

A New Book By the Pope?

Vatican

The Spanish daily, La Razon, announced the upcoming publication of a new book by Pope Benedict XVI titled, “Praising God With Art.” In it, Benedict illustrates his “passion for music and reflects on art, liturgy and theology.” The Holy Father also offers a theological and Christian critique of the great musical composers like Beethoven and Schubert, whose music produces a “melodic story that penetrates the soul with sweetness, leading the listener himself to feel the same call to the truth of the heart that goes beyond the reasoning felt by the musician.”
