Call to Truth

France

A number of prominent French men & women have written an “Appel à la Verité”, a ‘call to truth’ supporting Pope Benedict XVI in the current media storm against him. As the Appeal’s about page says, Pope Benedict “is the first pope to address head-on, without compromise, the problem. Paradoxically, he is the subject of undermining and personal attacks, relayed with a certain complacency on the part of the press”. The list of signatories includes writers, essayists, literary critics, bloggers, professors, philosophers, businessmen, senators, members of parliament, mayors, publishers, comedians, a Protestant minister, a Fields medal winner, and even a sexologist.

Franciscan Appointed By Obama

USA

President Barack Obama has appointed Brother Daniel P. Sulmasy, a Franciscan friar who teaches at the University of Chicago as a member of his Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues. An opponent of embryonic stem cell research and human cloning, Brother Sulmasy was influential in persuading the Catholic Health Association that Catholic hospitals could licitly administer the Plan B morning-after pill to rape victims.

Earth Day Celebrated the Right Way

USA

April 22nd is the 40th annual Earth Day, and this year, CatholicVote has decided that Catholics should commemorate it the right way – by celebrating Nature’s Greatest Gift! Yesterday CatholicVote has launched a bus ad campaign, featuring this image/message: The authors hope this will create a positive conversation about the relationship between caring for the Earth and caring for the most vulnerable on the earth – like the unborn who will be the future custodians of the Earth. The first cities where these bus ads will debut are San Francisco, Chicago and Seattle.

In This Case, There Wouldn’t Be Any Need For the Smear Campagn

Internet

The blog Acts of the Apostasy has commented on the media-campaign against the Holy Father: “I can't help but think that if Pope Benedict had decreed four years ago that the Church actually did have the authority to ordain women; and three years ago had changed the Church's teaching against artificial contraception; and two years ago had relaxed the discipline of celibacy for priests;, that all the fake Catholycs - who want and desire such impossible things - would be ardently and passionately defending the Holy Father against the media-driven smear campaign this year. Actually...if all that were true, there'd be no need for any smear campaign. Pray the novena.
