I can understand using the paper shredder technique to teach children about Confession and Penance, but it actually being the Sacaremnt is sacreglious at best. The fact that Penatential rite is the only way that we can clear ourselves of mortal sins seem very very forgotten and not understood! If Penance is not given Grace can not be gained at all!

Regarding the story from Rorate Caeli, I would imagine that a written confession is what mutes often need to do when confessing. Although, I suppose there are priests who can use/understand sign language. Of course, absolution must be given orally by the priest and not by simply “shredding” or destroying the written confession.
