Understandable Confusion: A video allegedly showing the theft of a consecrated host during a Papal Mass on Saint Peter’s Square has appeared on the Internet. It shows a woman receiving the host in her hand and moving away without consuming it. But most likely she is innocent of deliberate wrongdoing. The reason: After receiving communion, she makes the sign of the cross from right to left identifying her as an Eastern Christian who would never desecrate Holy Communion by grabbing it with their hands. It is therefore probable that she has mistaken Communion in the hand with what the Byzantine Liturgy calls the Antidoron, which is not the body of Christ but a piece of blessed bread that is distributed in the hand after the end of the Eucharist.

Church Vandalized: Two boys and a girl in their teens broke into Our Lady of Presentation Church in Brighton, Mass. last week spending a total of six hours inside. Surveillance cameras recorded the events. The vandals destroyed an organ, damaged three doors, emptied a fire extinguisher, defaced an oil painting of Pope John XXIII with a Devil’s star and wrote phrases on it like “*** God” and “Scooby Doo”. The church belongs to St. John’s Seminary and currently it is used as a lecture hall.

Number One Candidate of Hell: Catholics have reacted to the outburst of Nigerian televangelist Chris Okotie, the founder of the Pentecostal Household of God. Last Sunday Okotie claimed that – quote - “All Catholics go to hell” and “The Catholic church is a counterfeit church set up by Satan.” A group called Nigerian Catholics wrote on Facebook: “If we are to use what is written in the Bible concerning marriage and divorce to self-proclaimed judge Chris Okotie, then he is already the number one candidate of hell.” Okotie has been married twice and separated from his second wife on June 2012.
