Ingrid Betancourt told Benedict XVI about her spiritual experience during her imprisonment. The meeting in Castel Gandolfo between the Pope and Betancourt lasted 25 minutes; immediately after, Benedict XVI received Ingrid's mother, Iolanda Pulencio, her sister Astrid and her two children, one who turns 11 years old today, and a cousin. Betancourt, a candidate for the presidency of Colombia, was kidnapped in 2002 by FARC, the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces, and released last July after 6 years of imprisonment, in a blitz by the armed forces of the Latin American country. The visit of Betancourt in Italy lasts until Wednesday.
