Father Pavone Suspended from Ministry Outside Amarillo Diocese
STATEN ISLAND, NY – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, has issued the following statement:
“For the past several years, my Ordinary, the Most Reverend Patrick Zurek, Bishop of Amarillo, has given me permission to do the full-time pro-life work that I have done since 1993. In 2005, I made a public promise in a Church ceremony in Amarillo, presided over by a Vatican Cardinal, that this full-time pro-life work would be a lifetime commitment. That’s a commitment I promise to fulfill without wavering.
“This past week, however, I received a letter from the Bishop insisting that I report to the Diocese this Tuesday, September 13 and, for the time being, remain only there.
“I am very perplexed by this demand. Despite that, because I am a priest of the diocese of Amarillo, I will be obedient and report there on the appointed date, putting the other commitments that are on my calendar on hold until I get more …More

Bishop Patrick J. Zurek has demanded that the Rev. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, produce documentation for how donations have been handled by the Staten Island, N.Y., charity’s affiliates Rachel’s Vineyard and Missionaries of the Gospel of Life, said Monsignor Harold Waldow, vicar of clergy for the Diocese of Amarillo.
Yet, Fr. Pavone says:
Priests for Life has consistently provided every financial document requested by Bishop Zurek, including annual financial audits, quarterly reports, management documents—even entire check registers! In fact, on June 20, 2011, Priests for Life received the results of its independent audit examination for the year ended December 31, 2010. The organization's auditors issued an unqualified audit opinion indicating that the financial statements "present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of Priests for Life, in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America". This marks the tenth consecutive year that the organization's auditors have provided a 'clean' audit opinion, when reporting on the respective year's financial statements. Priests for Life has been completely transparent with Bishop Zurek and any other bishops who have requested information regarding our management and finances. Indeed, we have 21 bishops and cardinals who sit on our Advisory Board, and they are kept fully informed about our finances.

We are not getting the full story. Somebody is hiding something and I'm not ready to say who it is.
However, my uncle BadaBang Cannoli from Sicily always said, "When in doubt, follow the money."

My intention is not to judge the bishop's decision, but in this case, I suspect other powers are involved, those of proabortion civic authorities and devastating works of the Devil.

"I am now in Amarillo – as obedience requires -- for my temporary visit as matters with my bishop are worked out. The expression of support from pro-life leaders and activists has been constant and strong. They know that as large ministries in the Church grow, they inevitably have times of conflict with local Church authority. As long as the situation is handled with humility and obedience, combined with an unwavering commitment to the mission at hand, it works out in the right way. In this case, it will make Priests for Life and the whole pro-life movement much stronger, and will confirm me in the permanent, lifelong commitment I have to spend every moment of my time and every ounce of my energy defending the unborn from abortion.
"Along with all the prayers that are being offered, I know we are all benefiting from the prayers of three people in particular, who are interceding from heaven: Blessed John Paul II, Blessed Mother Teresa, and Cardinal John O’Connor.
"I knew all three of them personally. Each of them helped me to shape Priests for Life into what it is today. Each of them taught me how to be a pro-life leader and a faithful priest. Each of them gave me immense personal encouragement through our conversations, through the doors that they opened for me and the ministry, and through the guidance they gave.
"May everyone in the Church, clergy and laity alike, learn from their total commitment to ending abortion, and follow their example in striving for that goal."

Time will tell what's going on in this case.
The reference about not respecting the bishops might refer to Fr. Pavone's involvement with the Schiavo case, where the local bishop backed the husband in removing a feeding tube.

What the bishops of the United States ought to be investigating in earnest is their own involvement and sponsorship of pro-abortion and pro same-sex marriage.
When is that likely to happen?
More startling evidence has been unearthed about the Catholic Campaign for Human development that shows a disturbing pattern of cooperation between the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and groups that advocate abortion and same-sex marriage.

And as a diocesan priest, Father is subject to his bishop, who alone can permit - or refuse to permit - a priest to engage in a particular ministry. If Father receives an assignment in Amarillo, I presume he will have many opportunities to engage in pro-life activities there. The bishop is not obliged to give Father an assignment that he would choose for himself.

This is so sad...it certainly brings forth the attention (with jubilation) for the pro-choice people. We truly need to pray for the priests!
sboC - Indeed! I read the article..... I think that if one leaves oneself opened to the Devil, the Devil will use one for evil under the guise of goodness - one would only uncover the horror of one's actions post facto.
The SNAP etc, are just blinded by rage and lust for revenge. A sad state of affairs to be in, since one never really acheives any goal, save the distruction of one's original intent …More

SNAP [the "Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests"] and the "US Centre for Constitutional Rights" [sic] are taking [or attempting to take] Pope Benedict to the International Criminal Court [ICC] for "crimes against humanity". They filed a complaint calling on the ICC to "take action and prosecute the Pope" for "direct and superior responsibility for the crimes against humanity and other acts of sexual violence committed around the world" against minors. If the whole issue weren't so sad, one would only laugh at this attempt to implicate the Pope, who has fought far more, and far more effectively, than most against this scourge in the Church, in such a sordid affair! Clearly it is an attempt to raid ecclesial cash registers!!!!

The old adage that money is the root of ALL evil,

Pavone based only on allegations but I can assure you that you yourself would be much more judicious if you were the person who was charged publicly with any improprieties especially if you were totally innocent of those charges.
You would demand justice. You would demand a fair hearing, And, you would insist that outsiders who didn't know a da*n thing about the facts of the case would keep their big mouths shut until final disposition.
Cannoli, is there need for name calling?
Your previous post was inaccurate and insulting to Fr. Pavone, his ministry and to all Americans and this is NOT first time you've deliberately insulted the greatest country on the planet and in the entire hisotry of the world.
Cannoli, is there need for name calling?
In this case, Yes.
Must one constantly remind you of the "Play Fair" directive.
No. It is because of the "Play NICE" directive that I didn't write what I really think of you and your bigoted comments.

The two priests are in no way equal, I was refering to the common denominator of finance. This is all. The old adage that money is the root of ALL evil, just seems to be at the heart of many an allegation in priestly scandal - not least of which are those of the Church in the USA. I am just commenting on what it looks like to the foreigner.

Judge not, little Piano Man. While Fr. Pavone has been fully engaged in being the strongest clerical advocate for the unborn in the United States, you have been sitting on your fat useless rear end practicing your arpeggios.
What is the problem with Church in the USA
Aside from your arrogance, condescension and repeated attacks on all things American, what is YOUR problem.
Until the case of Fr. Pavone fully plays out, a prudent observer would withhold any judgment one way or the other. But then, you have repeatedly demonstrated that you are nothing more than an anti- American clown whose motivation is bigotry not prudence.

Fr. Pavone Appeals Suspension by His Bishop to Rome
In an official response, Fr. Pavone said that he was “perplexed” by Bishop Zurek’s demand.
“I have begun a process of appeal to the Vatican,” Fr. Pavone said. “This process aims to correct any mistaken decisions of the bishop in my regard and to protect my commitment to full-time pro-life activity for my whole life. We are very confident that the Vatican will resolve this matter in a just and equitable fashion.”
Fr. Pavone also responded to Bishop Zurek in a Sept. 12 letter to the American bishops. “Priests for Life has provided the diocese of Amarillo with full and complete annual audits of the finances of the Association every year since I have been incardinated in Amarillo,” he said in the letter.
Fr. Pavone stated that independent audits were conducted on Priests for Life between 2005 and 2010, but that the diocese never acknowledged the receipt of those audits.
He added that he does not receive a salary from either Priests for Life or the Diocese of Amarillo. He acknowledged that the organization does provide for his residence and ministry-associated expenses, but said that “these expenses are very small,” around $2,000 per month.
In addition, Fr. Pavone denied the charges of disobedience in connection with his ministry, saying, “I acted at all times in full obedience to my Ordinary.”

Full statement from Bishop Zurek regarding decision to suspend Fr. Pavone’s public ministry
"In his relationship to his bishop ordinaries, Father Pavone has gradually lost his need to show appropriate obedience to his Bishop. It seems that his fame has caused him to see priestly obedience as an inconvenience to his unique status and an obstacle to the possible international scope of his ministry. I would venture to say that the supreme importance that he has attributed to his PFL ministry and the reductionist attitude toward the diocesan priesthood has inflated his ego with a sense of self-importance and self-determination. This attitude has strained his relationship with me and has given me the impression that I cannot invoke obedience with him because he is famous. It is my desire to help him readjust his priestly bearing through spiritual and theological renewal in order to recapture that essential priestly hallmark of respect and obedience. It is also my desire to strengthen Father Pavone’s sense of communio sacramentalis with me so that he may be fortified with a healthy zeal to live in an authentic way his sacramental gift and mystery as a priest of Jesus Christ."
Bishop Zurek's complete letter is Here.
