Feast Of The Ascension And Mother’s Day.

Mothers Day

So what are you doing for Mothers Day today? Did you get some flowers or maybe bought some chocolate? Maybe a breakfast in bed. When we were kids, we used to do some extra chores around the house. As we grew older, we would help with the garden. Some of us may live a distance away. Calling mom and letting her know you love her may be a good idea.

I wonder how many times our mothers have let us know she loved us… How can one enumerate the jobs a mother has? To say the jobs a mother has is to cheapen what she does. Mothers do not just do things. There is always something intangible in the affects our mothers have in our lives. No, being a mother is not a job. It is far greater; it is a vocation.

When a woman goes to work, she does things to the best of her ability, then goes home to her family and gets paid for her work during the day. Through work, we are called to love one another. But the love of a mother does not stop when she goes to work. The mothers love does not retire. The mind of a mother does not stop when she is no longer in her children’s presence; no matter how old the children may be.

To drive the point home; why is it that when the mother kisses a “boo boo”, things are better? Why doesn’t that work with doctors? Why is it that when a mother makes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, it tastes better, but we would never ask for one in a restaurant? In a certain sense, you can say that there is a mystery about mothers. It is a mystery wonderful to ponder because we can never quite express the greatness.

God Bless our mothers!
