The Cuban Church has launched a new website dedicated to the Shrine of Our Lady the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre. The official website marks the beginning of the commemorations for the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the image of the Virgin of Charity and her presence in the country.
FIDES Agency explains that the initiative aims to be a means of encounter, prayer and dialogue for those united in the devotion to Mary.
The Cuban Episcopal Conference called for a celebration of a Jubilee Year in 2012 with a three-year preparation period; the solemn opening took place on August 30 in the Basilica of Charity in El Cobre.
On that day at Castel Gandolfo, the Pope greeted the Cuban people saying: "Receive the Virgin in your homes, remain with her in prayer and encounter her fortune by doing what her son Jesus tells you. On this beautiful path, the affection and spiritual proximity of the Pope accompanies you. May God bless Cuba and all Cubans."
