French Bishop Approaches the Old Rite

France

This weekend Mgr. Aillet, Bishop of Bayonne, was in Bordeaux, the blog Rorate-caeli reports. He celebrated ordinations in the church of Saint-Eloi, a personal parish of the Institute of the Good Shepherd. This Institute was founded in 2006 by former members of the Priestly Society of Pius X. For the first time a sitting French bishop came to Saint-Eloi to celebrate Mass in the extraordinary form and took the opportunity to meet members of the Institute.

Patient Enough

USA

Speaking with LifeSiteNews.com after the Vigil for Life Mass last week, Lexington Bishop Ronald Gainer said that the Church has been “patient enough” with outspokenly pro-abortion Catholic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. LifeSiteNews.com questioned Bishop Gainer on whether Pelosi should be denied communion due to her public stance as a pro-abortion Catholic. While acknowledging that it was up to her local bishop, the Lexington prelate did say that “something should be done”.

Strange Online-Game for Children

Internet

Papermintis a new online game for children. It creates a cute virtual world in which children are encouraged to form "relationships", get pregnant and have a "paper baby", Fr Tim Finigan reports in his blog. There is no lower age limit and no "date of birth" verification. Children playing in this virtual world are invited to set up a personal avatar and indicate whether or not they enjoy having sex. Peter Bradley, deputy director of Kidscape made severe comments: It just encourages young people to have an inappropriate online lifestyle. Kidscape also has concerns about communication between avatars - is the site moderated? If not, there are serious child protection concerns.

Mass Gathering of Priests

Philippines

Some 5,500 priests -- three-quarters of the national presbyterate – are spending the week on group retreat in Manila, the blog ‘whispersintheloggia’ reports. The gathering includes a mass reconciliation rite with individual confessions. Monsignor Pedro Quitorio, spokesman for the Filipino bishops, said that, while priests lining up before a confessional box is not a common sight, they were also humans and not without sin. The confession hall isn't open to cameras.

Are We Really the Top?

United States

The website ‘clevelandpriest.blogspot.com’ has published a insightful quote by the American author Tobias Wolff: “It is very fine and pleasant to think of ourselves as the most put upon folk in history – but then everyone has thought that from the beginning. It makes a grand excuse for all manner of laziness.”
