What a punishment to view this ridiculous banal lunacy! .......There's no real Mass but the Mass of the Saints..the Latin Mass!

Human beings just cannot help but exist at the extreme end of, or towards the extreme ends of certain philosophies. In this case we have the former Popes exhortation for beauty and solemnity and higher standards in the Sacred Music of the Liturgy. On the other hand, we have Pope Francis warning us to "beware of ostentatious Liturgy". According to Fr Barron, Christianity, to take the language of St Paul, is all about "running the race", "fighting the good fight". Language of energetic forward movement. The music in at the Holy Mass is anything but "ostentatious", but it is also, anything but an example of excellence in Sacred Catholic Music. One cannot help but wonder, is it because of a lack of sophistication here, or is it just that folks could not be bothered to do better? If so, what does this lack of striving for excellence say about the Faith shown here (lex credendi, lex orandi, and all that)? To me this Parish Music is not "running" or striving, but is arrested in the 70s-80s, marking time in situ, and therefore going nowhere and doing nothing for the instruction and spiritual and cultural improvement of the People of God gathered in this Church.

It is rather like settling for a diet of processed cheese sandwiches, every day of one's life, rather than seeking to improve one's diet for the sake go the health of one's body. In this case to be clear, we are not dealing with a caporal body, rather, the Body of Christ. How much more ought we to feed this body with the best of all elements? Sacred Music is, as the Church specifies, THE Liturgy. Can this down-at-heel music be 'the best' food for the People gathered here, I suspect NO.

Is North America still caught at some point on the spectrum of the extremes of reactionism ?? Considering this Liturgy, it is indeed!
