Four Last Things.

Many people have a number of goals that they wish to achieve in a life...a full bucket list, if you will...before they kick the bucket. But unfortunately, for most modern men, the goal of reaching heaven and checking off items on a spiritual bucket list, such as staying in the state of grace, using the Holy Sacraments, growing in virtue, and visiting pilgrimage sites, are rarely considered. So focused are we on earthly goals that many are missing out on heaven for the world. As we see more and more leaves fall from the trees...and as we note that this is the last Sunday of the year in the Church's holy calendar...let us consider our end. You see, if we want to enter heaven, it is best to begin by looking at our end...our goal. Before we consider the means on how to get there, we must make sure we put the goal before us. And that's why priests are highly encouraged to preach on the Last Things, especially as we reach the end of the Church's year. Yes...with Advent just around the corner and the beginning of a new ecclesial year...it is proper to speak of death, judgment, heaven, and yes hell.
