“Toy Story 3” also wins at the Vatican.

July 22, 2010. The Vatican's newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, has called the third installation of Disney-Pixar's “Toy Story” a “masterpiece” for its creative animation techniques and quality.

Woody and Buzz Light Year face their destiny as their owner, Andy, has stopped playing with them. The 17-year-old is heading off to college and must decide to donate them to a nursery or throw them out.

L'Osservatore Romano says the movie allows viewers to reflect on friendships, loneliness, rejection and solidarity. It also touches upon growing up and the strength that comes from feeling like you belong to a family.

It adds that “Toy Story 3” is an “adventure of great emotional intensity” and through the experience of toys with the ability to act and think as humans, it becomes a “useful metaphor to talk about true feelings.”

The newspaper says it is an entertaining film for children and adults.

Toy Story 2 was made 11 years ago and the film's director says several animation techniques have improved since then, allowing for the special effects used in Toy Story 3.

It is currently the highest-grossing film of 2010 in the US and the second-highest grossing film worldwide.
