No Messiah: A judge in Tennessee changed a 7-month-old boy's name to Martin from Messiah saying the religious name was earned by one person and – quote - "that one person is Jesus Christ." The boy's parents were in court because they could not agree on the child's last name but when the judge heard the boy's first name she ordered it changed too. Messiah was No. 4 among the fastest-rising baby names in 2012.

Priest in jail: 39 year old Father Song Wanjun, an underground priest in Hebei province, north eastern China, was arrested on August 7 according to AsiaNews. The arrest was made by 10 policemen. It continues a local pattern of persecution of clergy who are faithful to the Holy See. Over the past 20 years at least 20 Catholic underground priests have been tortured and suffered tremendous pressure to join the Patriotic Association controlled by the Communist Party of China.

What about the German bishops? In a statement addressing the start of Brazil's National Family Week, Pope Francis said that life "must always be defended starting in the womb”. Last month the pope was in Brazil for World Youth Day. Four days after he left, President Dilma Rousseff signed into law a bill that requires healthcare centers to administer the "morning-after pill" to rape victims up to three days after the crime. However, up until now, Francis has tolerated the sad fact that the German bishops distribute the morning-after pill in their alleged Catholic hospitals.

The bishops of the ecclesiastical province of Ibadan, located in south western Nigeria, warned against attempts to legalize same-sex marriage. The bishops – quote - firmly reject all attempts to enshrine homosexual tendencies in the Nigerian constitution and we appeal to every Nigerian to protect the traditional values of marriage and the family as a way of fostering a cohesive society”.

We pray to Pope for God to give the strength to defend Christian morality with the firmness required by the circumstances.
