From May 7th to May 9th, Bari, Puglia’s capital celebrates its Patron, San Nicola. Thousands of tourists and pilgrims come to Bari to join in the celebration that lasts for three days. On the first day a historical procession takes place in Bari Vecchia. An icon of the Saint is carried through the narrow streets accompanied by attendants dressed in the traditional way and by many pilgrims. When Saint Nicholas is returned to the church, the bells ring. On the second day a large statue of the Saint is carried along the coast and then back to the Basilica by colourfully decorated boats.
