Short Lived Rite: Next Saturday 50 years have passed since Paul VI celebrated the first Mass according to the instructions of Second Vatican Council in the parish-church Ognisanti in Rome. For the event, Pope Francis will preside a Eucharist in that same church. He will use the same ciborum, bookstand and candlesticks as Paul VI – but not the same rite because the Mass of the Council was short-lived. Already four years later, it was replaced by the Novus Ordo.

Neither A Saint nor a Catholic: On February 21 Pope Francis named Gregory of Narek who died in 1003 a doctor of the church. From the Church’s point of view, Gregory was neither a saint nor a Catholic. He belonged to the Armenian Apostolic Church, which was then affected by the heresy of monophysitism because of its rejection of the Ecumenical Council of Chalcedon.

The Truth Must Out: Italian filmmaker Liana Marabini has produced the documentary motion picture “Shades of Truth” about Pope Pius XII and his efforts resulting in saving 800’000 Jews from deportation by the Germans during Second World War. The film was presented yesterday in Rome. It is based on facts contained in a book of the Austrian-Israeli author and diplomat Pinchas Lapide who died in 1997 in Frankfurt am Main.

Electronic Stoup: Father Andrzej Hanich, the parish priest of Prószków in South West Poland has installed in his church an electronic stoup. It is placed next to the old one. Holy Water is dispensed through an electronic sensor. It is enough to put one’s hand under the stoup. When the device is out of holy water, it sends a signal to the cell phone of the parish priest warning him. It also informs, about how many people used the device. Father Hanich introduced the electronic stoup after having received complains from parishioners who were afraid of infections stemming from the conventional stoup.
