SSPX General Chapter News 2018 – FSSPX.news.

fsspx.news/en – Econe, Switzerland. The Society of St. Pius X’s 4th General Chapter just concluded Saturday, July 21st 2018. Since the founding of the Society in 1970, the General Chapter has been held every 12 years to elect a new Superior General for the next 12 year term. It also serves to review and discuss important points in the life and work of the Society and her members.

On July 11th, 47 year old Fr. Davide Pagliarani, an Italian priest of the Society, was elected as the new Superior General. Having been ordained in 1996, Fr. Pagliarani has completed diverse apostolic work in Europe, Asia, and South America.

Two assistants were also elected to help support Fr. Pagliarani in his new position and work. The new 1st Assistant was a Bishop of Spanish nationality – His Excellency Alfonso de Galarreta – who having been ordained a priest in 1980 – previously served as 2nd Assistant in 2002. The new 2nd Assistant elected was a priest of French nationality, Fr. Christian Booshacor who was ordained in 1986 and who, until now, spent much of his apostolate in France and South America.

Two General Councillors were also elected during the General Chapter of the SSPX: Bishop Bernard Fellay and Fr. Schmidberger who have both served as General Superior of the Society in the past.

Once these new elections had taken place, the new General Council spent 10 days reviewing and discussing important points to the life and work of the Society. The points included are as follows : The moral and financial situation of the SSPX based on the report of the outgoing Superior General. Any changes or clarifications to be made to the Statutes, as well as the authentic interpretation of these Statutes. Any important matter impacting the common good of the SSPX. And lastly determining the rules to be followed in the Society with regards to certain controversial matters, new social conditions, and problems related to the apostolate, as well as the formation of clergy.

From this extensive review, all resolutions were then printed and published in the official internal bulletin – the Cor Unum – and sent to all the members of the Society around the world.

At the close of its General Chapter, the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X called to mind the importance and timeliness of the declaration made by its founder, Marcel Lefebvre, on November 21st, 1974. More than fifty years of the Church’s “self-destruction” allow us to fully appreciate the soundness of that declaration, which the Society of St. Pius X embraces in its entirety:

“We hold fast, with all our heart and with all our soul, to Catholic Rome, Guardian of the Catholic Faith and of the traditions necessary to preserve this faith, to Eternal Rome, Mistress of wisdom and truth. No authority, not even the highest in the hierarchy, can force us to abandon or diminish our Catholic Faith, so clearly expressed and professed by the Church’s Magisterium for twenty centuries.

That is why we hold fast to all that has been believed and practiced in the faith, morals, liturgy, teaching of the catechism, formation of the priest and institution of the Church, by the Church of all time; to all these things as codified in those books published before the Modernist influence of the Council. This we shall do until such time that the true light of Tradition dissipates the darkness obscuring the sky of Eternal Rome.”

The Priestly Society of Saint Pius X intends to pursue its principal purpose, which is the priesthood as Our Lord Jesus Christ instituted it, and always to keep the priesthood focused on its very reason for existing: the holy sacrifice of the Mass. The Society is enlivened by the same sentiments as Saint Pius X, its patron saint:
"To eliminate all vain delusions for such, We say to them with emphasis that We do not wish to be, and with the Divine assistance never shall be aught before human society but the Minister of God, of whose authority We are the depositary. The interests of God shall be Our interest, and for these We are resolved to spend all Our strength and Our very life. Hence, should anyone ask Us for a symbol as the expression of Our will, We will give this and no other: "To renew all things in Christ.'" (E supremi apostolatus, October 4, 1903.)

With the same faith and the same hope as this holy pope, the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX), through its preaching and apostolate, proclaims Our Lord Jesus Christ’s dominion over all men and all nations, such that his rights and authority be acknowledged and venerated by all. For this reason the Society continues to work for the triumph of Christ the King and invites all souls of good will to join in this stirring supernatural endeavor.
