The youth challenge.

Observing the creativity and sensitivity surrounding the preparations for WYD, it's clear that Australians are keenly aware that now is a unique opportunity to increase the involvement and integration of young people in the life and mission of the Church ,that it provides a catalyst for bringing Jesus to all, especially in our increasingly globalised and secularized society.

“We see WYD as a means for us to grow in our Youth Ministry and also revitalize all our parishes and people from every age group. It was something that was really a part of the whole community and enables people and us as Church to reach out to everyone.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve been getting, not only within the Church but outside the Church, in the general community. So it's exciting!”.

“The slogan for our diocese to get prepared for WYD is “Witness” because we would really like to be a witness of our faith and we would really like to witness to all the world our love for Jesus and God”.

“I said to the young people in an earlier gathering that when I looked out at them they looked like a great big refresh button on a computer. That is really what the Youth Summit is all about and all these preparations for WYD. It's an attempt to press a refresh button to generate new energies in the Church, at a time in this part of the world where some people think that the Church is going out of business. Now I'm not one of those who thinks that the Church is going out of business and I'm surrounded by a lot of people here in Canberra who think exactly the same. There is something stirring in young people.”
