The New York-based Maryknoll Fathers suspended the Rev. Dr. William Charles Fryda after he refused to drop a case he filed three years ago against Nairobi Cardinal John Njue and Sister Marie Therese Gachambi, the mother superior of Assumption Sisters of Nairobi. Fr Fryda, who is also a medical doctor, claims that the cardinal and the sisters were attempting to seize control over two hospitals founded by him. The Maryknoll order asked Fryda to drop his suit.

Madrid archbishop Cardinal Antonio María Rouco Varela appointed eight new exorcists in his archdiocese. The appointments were linked to an increased demand in the archdiocese and also with increased requests for help from other Dioceses that have no exorcist. The number of victims of esoteric and occult ritual practices has grown significantly as a result of de-Christianization. Shortly after his appointment as Archbishop of Milan, Cardinal Angelo Scola, the former Patriarch of Venice, doubled the number of exorcists for his diocese from six to twelve.

On October 26 at 11.00 a.m. in Rome, there will be a Tridentine Mass celebrated on the altar of the chair in Saint Peter’s. The Mass is part of a pilgrimage organized by Summorum Pontificum This is the fourth year in a row that a Tridentine Mass is celebrated at this altar but the first during the pontificate of pope Francis.

Father Michael Anthony Perry, from Indianapolis, is the new minister general of the Order of Friars Minor. He was elected in Rome on Wednesday. The election came after Pope Francis’ decision to appoint the former minister general of the Order, as Secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life. In the past, Perry has worked for Catholic Relief Services for Franciscan programs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and as international policy adviser for the U.S. bishops' conference.
