Should Catholics Attend the New Mass? - Part II of II - Episode 15 SSPX FAQ Videos.
sspx.org - As we examined in our previous video, “What is the Novus Ordo Missae?” The New Mass was created after Vatican II, under the influence of Fr. Annibale Bugnini and Pope Paul VI, both of whom wanted a liturgy that was ecumenical and would not be a “stumbling block” to Protestants.
This goal was accomplished with the new liturgy by obscuring or even removing from its prayers the Catholic doctrines concerning the propitiatory nature of the Mass, the sacrificial and mediatory character of the priesthood, and the dogma of the Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
It was these alarming theological deficiencies that caused Cardinals Ottaviani and Bacci to write in September 1969 to Pope Paul VI what was called the “Ottaviani Intervention.” In Part 6 we read: “It is evident that the Novus Ordo has no intention of presenting the Faith as taught by the Council of Trent, to which, …More

Yesterday, His Holiness Pope Francis, though his own disposition, established during the Holy Year of Mercy that those faithful who for various reasons approach “priest of the SSPX to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation shall validly and licitly receive absolution of their sins,” and so we see and may remain confident in the goodwill that comes from the Vicar of Christ for the SSPX; and from the example of Pope Francis we faithful must pray for goodwill and for unity in the Church, not only with the SSPX, but with other breakaway groups as well.

This example of genuine goodwill for the SSPX has always been present in the Catholic Church; especially from Rome, His Holiness John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and now Pope Francis. The tensions, since 1970, with the SSPX were born out of protest to changes that followed the Second Vatican Council, 45 years already, tensions hit a low point in 1988, resulting in the excommunication of SSPX bishops. Once more, the Catholic Church offered the SSPX great and genuine goodwill in 2009, when Pope Benedict XVI lifted the excommunications, with the expressed hope that the SSPX would quickly return to full communion; yet to no avail.

And as the Catholic Church continues to extend Her hand and goodwill to the SSPX, the Church hears from representatives of the SSPX many unpleasant things; His Holiness benedict XVI described it as “arrogance and presumptuousness, an obsession with one-sided positions, etc.”, which calls into question the credibility of the SSPX. No matter what steps forward the Catholic Church makes toward reconciliation, it seems the SSPX are determined to step backward. I fear and have the feelings that as time goes by the SSPX, like much of society, see the Vicar of Christ with misgivings, and as a logical consequence only become more hardened in their error over time.
