Papst entzündet Lichter am größten Weihnachtsbaum der Welt.
Papst Franziskus hat am Sonntagabend per Knopfdruck die Lichter an einem riesigen Weihnachtsbaum in Umbrien entzündet. Vom Vatikan aus ließ er über ein Tablet den Baum erstrahlen, der mit tausend Lichtern auf einen Abhang über dem Städtchen Gubbio gezeichnet ist.
„Wenn wir das Licht an der Krippe entzünden, dann wünschen wir uns, dass das Licht Christi in uns sein möge. Ein Weihnachten ohne Licht ist kein Weihnachten! Möge das Licht im Herzen sein; Vergebung für die anderen; und keine Feindschaften, keine Dunkelheiten. Möge das schöne Licht Christi leuchten! Das wünsche ich euch allen.“
Seit 1991 hat der Lichterbaum von Gubbio einen Eintrag im Guiness Buch der Rekorde, als mit 750 Metern größter Weihnachtsbaum der Welt. 2011 hatte bereits Papst Benedikt XVI. per Knopfdruck die Lichter am Baum von Gubbio entzündet. Franziskus fuhr in seiner kleinen, improvisierten Ansprache fort:
