Cardinal Versaldi who was in charge of the Vatican’s finances has explained the case of Monsignore Vallejo Balda who was arrested mercilessly last Saturday for having leaked Vatican documents. Quote: “The hypothesis I have heard and that most convinces me is that Vallejo is suffering from an executioner syndrome who wants justice at any cost.” Versaldi knows Vallejo personally.
Power Syndrome? Edward Pentin writes that informed sources have told him that the power and influence got to Monsignor Vallejo Balda. He allegedly lived in a large and elaborately furnished Vatican apartment, and his relationship with colleagues had deteriorated.
Career? Pentin also writes that according to sources Monsignor Vallejo promoted Cardinal Pell for the position of prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy and that Vallejo hoped to become its secretary. Instead, due to an “incompatibility of functions,” that position went to somebody else.
