New archbishop: Toledo Bishop Leonard P. Blair was appointed on October 29 as the new archbishop of Hartford, Connecticut. He will take the place of 76-year-old Archbishop Henry Mansell. In the past, bishop Blair assessed the Leadership Conference of Women Religious as part of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith. The assessment concluded that the conference, which represents 80 percent of the U.S. nuns, is undermining Catholic teaching.
What’s the problem? In the National Catholic Reporter, the dissenting Catholic journalist Michael Sean Winters slammed the appointment of bishop Blair.
