Homily by Fr. Anthony Brankin, of the Archdiocese of Chicago on Holy Thursday, 2010. The same body and blood offered the next day on the cross happens on our altars every day. Crucifixion does not remain on a hill in Jerusalem. The Mass is not just a bunch of holy words. Protestants don’t believe in the body and blood of Christ. Catholics who leave the Church lose this. The Mass is the difference in our lives between salvation and damnation.

The Sisters of Jesus Our Hope live vows of poverty, chastity and obedience within a vibrant community life. Our spirit is one of joyful hope and humble servant love, animated by the Holy Spirit and rooted in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our common life is very important to us. It is here that we grow in loving and supporting one another and in sharing our faith with one another, in order to be, as St. Augustine says,
of one mind and heart on the way to the Lord.” Our way of life is based on the Rule of St. Augustine.
Our prayer life is centered on the Eucharist. Our daily prayer includes Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, meditation in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, the rosary, and spiritual reading.
Our charism, which is a particular gift from the Holy Spirit, is HOPE. Our life is centered on Jesus Christ who is our hope and the hope of all whom we serve in the midst of the fears and …More

Begotten or made? What does the Creed say? (Max and Bubba)
(Go to www.greatcatholichomilies.com)
Bubba: I’m confused about the Creed. What is this word "begotten"?
Max: Begotten is not very much used today but it is a very important idea.
Bubba: What does it mean?
Max: First, the difference between "begotten" and "made."
Bubba: Go on.
Max: When something is begotten, it is just like the begetter. Bubba: "Begetter"? I suppose that means the person that does the begetting. Max: Right. You catch on fast. "Begotten" means one thing and "made" means something else. Bubba: Go on. Max: When you make something, you make something different from yourself. And when you beget, you beget something just like yourself, right? Bubba: Right you are! When humans beget, they beget something like themselves. And when animals? How about animals? Max: Yes. Animals, too. And when God begets, he begets Someone like Himself. Bubba: Oh, I get it. That’s why we say Jesus is "Begotten, not made." Max: You’re a …More

World, the Flesh and the Devil -- Three Sources of Temptation.
(From GreatCatholicHomilies.com)
The flesh? That covers the inclinations and desires that we would experience if were alone on a desert island.
The devil? Many of us do not have to worry about the devil because he knows that the flesh and the world will do the job of corrupting us.
But the world? Ah, that’s what we have to beware of. The world means all those things like the Supreme Court, television, Hollywood and yes, newspapers.
They tell us that the bad is good and the good is bad, particularly in the area of sexual behavior. The Fatima children were told that more people go to Hell for sexual sins than any other.
The next time you pick up a newspaper or see a movie, beware: you may be in for an invitation to call the bad good and the good bad.

Prayer-Poem: Family Harmony, Despite the Strife.

Family Harmony
A family shares its bed and board;
They take each other to the mall.
There’s hardly time to pray, O Lord;
We rush around from spring to fall.
At times a husband and a wife; Do argue loud, and kids can hear. What adds to all this family strife; Is when we do not pray, I fear. --- O God, we need your help each day; To turn from sin, and virtue get. And fold our hands in common prayer; Then families will reach heaven yet. To hear a homily on the rebirth of family life, go to http://www.GreatCatholicHomilies.com, and search for May 23, 2010.

Forgiveness — though the media deny it, Christians must offer it.
The media are so involved in our lives — they tell us what to think and believe. They teach us that there is no God, and thus no sin, and therefore no forgiveness. Yet the media is made up of seriously flawed people. The day may come when we need forgiveness, and we find ourselves neither asking for it, nor accepting it. Christ tells us that we must offer forgiveness from our hearts, as often as others ask for it.
